New "Interface Theory" of Reality Proposes Time is Not Fundamental

Physics has long struggled with a deep divide: the quantum world is fuzzy and probabilistic, while our everyday world is definite and solid. A new theoretical framework, Coherence-Selection Interface Theory (CSIT), suggests these aren't two separate worlds, but two domains of a single reality connected by a "selection interface."

The theory posits that the universe consists of a "Potential Domain"—a vast ocean of quantum possibilities—and an "Actual Domain"—the concrete sequence of events we experience. The bridge between them is a global selection process that continuously turns "what could be" into "what is."

"We've been looking at time as a container for events. CSIT suggests that time is actually the result of events happening. It is the sequence of actualization itself—the continuous 'tick-tock' of the universe selecting one specific reality from the quantum menu of possibilities."

Visualizing the Theory

CSIT can be understood through three key stages. These visualizations are free to use for media coverage with attribution.

1. The Potential Domain

Imagine a vast, shimmering ocean of possibilities. This is the quantum state of the universe. In this domain, contradictory things can coexist—a particle can be in two places at once, or a cat can be both alive and dead. It is real, structured, and holds the "menu" of everything that could happen.

2. The Selection Interface

This is the "lens" through which reality passes. It acts as a global filter. Out of the infinite possibilities in the Potential Domain, it selects exactly one consistent outcome. Crucially, CSIT identifies this interface as Universal Consciousness. It is not a random mechanism, but a fundamental awareness that decides the "present moment." It ensures that everyone sees the same reality, solving paradoxes where different observers might disagree on what happened.

3. The Actual Domain (Emergent Time)

Once a possibility is selected, it becomes "actual." It crystallizes into history. Time isn't a pre-existing road we travel on; it's the trail we leave behind as selections happen. The "flow of time" is simply the continuous process of the Selection Interface turning the Potential into the Actual, tick by tick.

Quick Fact

CSIT aligns with the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, which recognized macroscopic quantum effects, by proposing that quantum potentiality is a physically real, engineerable resource.
